Industrial Relations

Industry Relations:

Cal Poly is ideally situated with respect to high-tech industry. In addition to the companies located in San Luis Obispo, Silicon Valley is only a three hour drive to the north, while the Southern California industrial complex is only a three hour drive to the south. Because of our technological focus, Cal Poly is a favorite recruiting target for many of the nation's leading companies. Cal Poly CPE students typically receive several attractive offers even in slack hiring cycles, and are often placed in positions normally not open to new graduates. Due to our close ties with industry, faculty members maintain currency by participating in many opportunities for summer research and consulting.

We are proud to have ongoing relationships with companies such as Agilent Technologies Inc., Applied Signal Technology, Boeing Commercial Airplanes, Chevron Information Technology Company, Cisco, Hewlett Packard Laboratories, Hitachi Global Storage Technologies, Intel Corporation, JPL/Caltech, Lockheed Martin IS&S, Microsoft Corporation, Raytheon SAS, Second Sight Medical Products, Seven Pinnacles Development, St. Jude Medical Inc., Synopsys and Xilinx.  Many of these companies particpate in Cal Poly's Computer Engineering Program by becoming members of our Industrial Advisory Board, and sponsoring student projects, laboratory equipment, scholarships and events.

CPE Industrial Advisory Board

At its inaugural meeting on June 6th, 2003, the new CPE Industrial Advisory Board (IAB) had the opportunity to become acquainted with the overall CPE academic program, including the curriculum in detail, research being done by faculty, student clubs, and more. Then the IAB convened to elect a chair, adopt bylaws for the board, and prioritize objectives. The group now holds two meetings per year. The focus of the Spring meetings focus on curricula and feedback from graduating seniors while the Fall meetings focus on new academic developments and laboratory enrichment.
